About The Drysdale Region

The town of Drysdale, occupying approximately 40 square kilometres, is located in the centre of the Bellarine Peninsula. It spreads just 22 kilometres east of the city of Geelong, and because of this proximity, Drysdale has become one of Geelong’s residential satellites.

Farmlands planted with fruits and vegetables are very much part of the landscape in Drysdale. These features recall the local lady pioneer, Anne Drysdale, from whom the town drew its name. Drysdale’s beginnings trace back to the mid-1800s when Anne established a farm in the town’s current site.

A family-friendly town

Like the other towns in the Bellarine Peninsula, Drysdale is historically a holiday resort destination. Beaches and bays are easily accessible from the town, and there are plenty of open spaces for family activities in Drysdale.

The town boasts of eight parks covering almost 1.6 per cent of the town’s total area. One of these, the Drysdale Park and Recreation Reserve, offers a range of sports facilities and a picnic area amidst lush pine trees. The impressive McLeod’s Waterhole is also in this park.

Clifton Springs, located on the foreshore of Port Philip Bay, is another attraction for Drysdale visitors. This destination has been drawing tourists since the late 19th century primarily because of its mineral waters believed to provide health-giving medicinal properties.

Home buying gains traction

It is the quieter suburban setting of Drysdale, however, that has boosted the town’s population in recent years. According to one real estate analyst, the residents of Drysdale have risen to over 5,000 from the town’s 4,316 census count in 2011.

Drysdale real estate properties for sale have drawn the interest of young families and investors. The average length of homeownership for the town’s residents is 10 years. The large majority (84 per cent) of Drysdale houses are owner-occupied. Only 16 per cent of the town’s population are renters.

Choices amongst Drysdale sales listings of single-family houses can include a residence with five bedrooms within a floor area of 1,215 square metres and a price tag in the AU$930,000–990,000 range. Picks on apartments, on the other hand, can start from a two-bedroom unit priced at AU$300,000.
